CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR: • Why is my student only performing at one recital, and not both like last year? Based on our survey results and CenterStage’s student growth within this past year, we are trying our very best to keep recitals to under 2 hours in length. This is challenging with 200 dance students! It is our expectation that students Level 4 and up will continue to dance in all recitals. A break down of which classes perform at either performance will be posted in the lobby at CenterStage a month before recital. • If I have a child in each recital, do I need to buy two DVDs? Nope! Both recitals will be on the same disc. • If my child is in the Opening Number, does she need to perform at both recitals? Nope! Our instructors have planned out choreography based on which levels are participating in which shows
COSTUMES • Does my child need to arrive in his/her first costume? Yes! • Is jewelry allowed? If so, what kind? Why or why not? No jewelry. This includes bracelets, necklaces, all earrings, etc. If it is not part of the costume, it can be distracting. There is also potential for it to be lost, or catch on a costume. •What type and position on head should bun/hairstyle be? Student’s hair should be parted over their left eye, with a low bun as close to the nape of the neck if possible. If a student’s hair is too short to pull into a bun, it can be parted and slicked back. Students can choose to pay $10 to have this done the morning of the recital! Please email email@example.com to book your appointment! Click here for a video demonstration! •What is the placement for costume hair accessories? Please ask your student’s instructor. •Are hair accessories other than those provided with the costume allowed? No. •Is hair/body glitter or shimmer spray allowed? No. •What kind of makeup should dancers have? What color palettes are acceptable? There is no specific make up or color palette. Students should have at least rouge and lipstick on. Heavy street make-up is encouraged. •Do dancers need a specific style/color of shoe or add-on shoe accessory? Students should wear the dance shoes they wear for class. Confirm with your instructor that you have the correct style and color. •Are students allowed to watch the recital? Dancers must stay backstage during the duration of the recital, even if they are only in one number. This is to prevent distractions such as entering and exiting the theatre and to keep backstage running smoothly. •When can my dancer change out of his/her last costume into street clothes? In between shows, students may change into street clothes for the award ceremony and dinner. •What is your policy on undergarments under costumes? Panties cannot be worn under tights for young students. This created bunching and can they can almost always be seen from the audience. Older students must have correct dance undergarments that are not visible under the costume.
DRESSING ROOM •Who is allowed in the dressing room with my dancer? We have allowed time before the performance for mothers or legal female guardians to prepare their dancer. Once the performance begins, we encourage all mothers/guardians to enjoy the show. We have volunteers and teachers backstage to take care of our students. •What if I have more than one dancer participating in the show? Each student is assigned a dressing room with their specific level. •Will I be expected or required to send someone to change my child between dances if I can't? No, we have volunteers and teachers in place to help prepare students for multiple dances. We also have a special location for any quick changes in between numbers. •Will there be someone to check my child's costume before he/she goes onstage/to holding area to make sure all pieces are there and being worn properly, or is this my responsibility? Yes. This is the job of the volunteers and teachers. •What if my child's hair or makeup needs to be touched up between dances? The volunteers and teachers will also take care of this. •Is my child allowed to leave the dressing area alone? Must I be there to escort him/her if he/she needs to leave? All students will be escorted to the stage, or restroom by their dressing room volunteers. •Will the dressing room be monitored by a responsible adult at all times? Yes. We have adults supervising each room. •Where are the restrooms located? Restrooms are located in the lobby of GodWhy. There is also a small bathroom in most of the dressing rooms. Students should not do hair or make-up in the lobby restrooms. •May I take photos in the dressing area? No, because there may be some students changing. We encourage photos to be taken in the lobby or on stage between shows. •Are food and drinks allowed in the dressing area? If so, what kind? Only bottled water. Students may bring snacks, but no snacks that could stain a costume: fruit juice, cherries, gummy snacks, etc. •Are electronics allowed in the dressing area? If so, what are the rules regarding their use? Yes, but CenterStage is not liable if the item is damaged or lost. Bring at your discretion. We will also have activities for young students. •Should I send something to keep my child busy between dances? If you wish, although we will have activities. •Where do I pick my child up after the recital? After each performance, parents may greet their student at the stage. Classes will be dismissed by level. Make sure you receive your students’ year-end pack with next year’s information if you are leaving early. This has your student’s class suggestions, new/changed policies, class schedule, and other important information. •Are flowers allowed in the dressing area? Yes
