Recital FAQs

 CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR:
• If I have a child in each recital, do I need to buy two DVDs?
Nope! With multiple recitals, our videographer has come up with a great package that will allow you to add different recitals and customize your package!

COSTUMES
• Does my child need to arrive in his/her first costume?
Yes!
• Is jewelry allowed? If so, what kind? Why or why not?
No jewelry. This includes bracelets, necklaces, all earrings, etc. If it is not part of the costume, it can be distracting. There is also potential for it to be lost, or catch on a costume.
•What type and position on head should bun/hairstyle be?
Student’s hair should be parted over their left eye, with a low bun as close to the nape of the neck if possible. If a student’s hair is too short to pull into a bun, it can be parted and slicked back. Click here for a video demonstration!
•What is the placement for costume hair accessories?
Please ask your student’s instructor.
•Are hair accessories other than those provided with the costume allowed?
No.
•Is hair/body glitter or shimmer spray allowed?
No.
•What kind of makeup should dancers have? What color palettes are acceptable?
There is no specific make up or color palette. Students should have at least rouge and lipstick on. Heavy street make-up is encouraged.
•Do dancers need a specific style/color of shoe or add-on shoe accessory?
Students should wear the dance shoes they wear for class. Confirm with your instructor that you have the correct style and color.
•Are students allowed to watch the recital?
Dancers must stay backstage during the duration of the recital, even if they are only in one number. This is to prevent distractions such as entering and exiting the theatre and to keep backstage running smoothly.
•When can my dancer change out of his/her last costume into street clothes?
In between shows, students may change into street clothes for the award ceremony and dinner.
•What is your policy on undergarments under costumes?
Panties cannot be worn under tights for young students. This created bunching and can they can almost always be seen from the audience. Older students must have correct dance undergarments that are not visible under the costume. Every female student is required to wear the nude leotard provided to them.

DRESSING ROOM
•Who is allowed in the dressing room with my dancer?
We have allowed time before the performance for mothers or legal female guardians to prepare their dancer. Once the performance begins, we encourage all mothers/guardians to enjoy the show. We have teachers backstage to take care of our students.
•What if I have more than one dancer participating in the show?
Each student is assigned a dressing room with their specific level.
•Will I be expected or required to send someone to change my child between dances if I can't?
No, we have teachers in place to help prepare students for multiple dances. We also have a special location for any quick changes in between numbers.
•Will there be someone to check my child's costume before he/she goes onstage/to holding area to make sure all pieces are there and being worn properly, or is this my responsibility?
Yes. This is the job of the teachers.
•What if my child's hair or makeup needs to be touched up between dances?
The teachers will also take care of this.
•Is my child allowed to leave the dressing area alone? Must I be there to escort him/her if he/she needs to leave?
All students will be escorted to the stage, or restroom by their dressing room by an instructor or CS staff person.
•Will the dressing room be monitored by a responsible adult at all times?
Yes. We have adults supervising each room.
•Where are the restrooms located?
Restrooms are located in the lobby of CenterStage.
•May I take photos in the dressing area?
No, because there may be some students changing. We encourage photos to be taken in the lobby or on stage between shows.
•Are food and drinks allowed in the dressing area? If so, what kind?
Only bottled water. Students may bring snacks only if necessary. The recitals are short enough they shouldn't have time to snack.
•Are electronics allowed in the dressing area? If so, what are the rules regarding their use?
Yes, but CenterStage is not liable if the item is damaged or lost. Bring at your discretion.
•Should I send something to keep my child busy between dances?
The recitals are short enough they shouldn't have time to play. We ask that students just have their costume and dance shoes with them.
•Where do I pick my child up after the recital?
After each performance, parents may greet their student at the stage. Classes will be dismissed by level.
•Are flowers allowed in the dressing area?
Yes

What Our CS Family is Saying

"Centerstage Performing Arts has had a huge impact on my life! I have no idea where I would be without this place. Centerstage was something I looked forward to everyday while in high school. High School could be stressful some days, but being able to see friends and take classes instantly improved my mood. As a guy, you don’t see many other men in theatre/dance. Having other male students and teachers really encouraged me to try new things and really embrace the stage. Centerstage has also helped to prepare me for college. They have helped prepare me for auditions for shows and vocal lessons. I will always be thankful for the impact Centerstage Performing Arts has made on my life!" - Logan Purcell, CS Alumni

"THANK YOU for caring about about the WHOLE child, for costumes & choreography & music that are age appropriate...THANK YOU! For the self confidence I see you cultivating & nurturing in not only my child but so many others...THANK YOU! For the COURAGE to take on this task & follow your heart...THANK YOU! My daughter would not be where or who she is today without her CenterStage family. With every ounce of my soul, I THANK YOU!" - Jennifer Moore, CS Mom

"Thank you for creating a performing arts studio and not just another competitive dance studio.  I am grateful to be a part of a studio where all the girls are accepted and are offered many things to choose from, beyond dance so they can explore so many different avenues of the performing arts!  I so appreciate that when my daughter graduates she is going to take with her all the wonderful memories from class, the friendships she has made, and the life lessons she learned from you guys!" - Deanna Rice, CS Mom

"CenterStage is not a place. It's the people" - Christian Bare, Instructor and Director

"I cannot say enough positive things about Centerstage. The teachers, staff and kids are so kind, caring and encouraging to each other. The support is unbelievable! My daughter has made amazing friends at this studio, many of whom are much older than she is, but they have helped coach and encourage her along the way and she looks up to them so much. I greatly appreciate the modest recital costumes and clothing, they are very much age appropriate. Perhaps most of all however, is the dedication of the owners and teachers. They truly pour their heart and soul into this studio and the children that attend it." - Jessica Vaughn, CS Mom

"Thank you for giving me a new family and a new place to call home. I owe who I am today to the CS Family." - Christian Wilken, Instructor from Nebraska
